Generally with aircooled vw parts you have a few choices. First and most difficult is to find a New Old Stock part (NOS). This is very tough, because there is a limited number of NOS parts available.
Next is to buy used aircooled VW parts. The trick here is to find a good price, and a part that is not worn out or broken. This is a great and often the only way to find a rare part.
The third option is to buy aftermarket replacement parts. This is becoming more common as companies see the need for these parts. Carpet kits, chrome kits, body parts, air cooled engine parts and complete motors are easy to find from aftermarket dealers. The good part is the are NEW aircooled parts. The bad news for restorations and purists is that they are technically not original parts.
